WOW. 50 years have passed and it seems so short.
I have loved, married, given birth to two wonderful boys, divorced, retired from a wonderful job with the US Navy.
I have been able to do some great traveling all over the world. Need to do more. Last year I actually visited Kenya on Safari. AWESOME adventure.
I have also dabbled in apiculture and love it. I am lucky enough to have a
second home—The Knolls -- in Brunswick County straight out Rt 58 – 90 acres give or take with a new construction home. A bear has destroyed my hives twice now. Bees are so fascinating. What a restful getaway. While I am first a cat lover, I have now discovered a woman’s best friend. He is a Berger Picard.
Living in Olde Towne Portsmouth is making life great – I live in a restored 19th century home and can walk to the best restaurants in Tidewater and a wonderful Art Deco movie theater. Looking forward to the next 50 years.
lawyer www.kalfusnachman.com Married 1
I graduated from the University of North Carolina in '67, started law school at UVA in the same year and graduated in '71 after serving briefly on active duty in the Army.
I worked for the same law firm for seven years in Norfolk, during which time I got married and divorced. I then went with my current senior partner and formed what is now Kalfus & Nachman with offices in Norfolk,Newport News and Roanoke.
I still work five days a week, but rarely stay in the office after 1PM. This has allowed me to pursue additional interests which include serving on the board of a non-profit nursing home and chairing the board of a hospice organization.
In 1981 I was fortunate enough to cross paths with my high school heart throb Judy Bell ('64) and we were married the following year. We have resided in Virginia Beach ever since. We have a son Michael who lives in Cambridge, Mass. and hopefully will one day bless us with one or more grandchildren.
Judy and I have enjoyed travelling throughout our marriage and we have many great memories of those trips. I have become active in an organization that supports 5 orphanages in Nicaragua and it has been a real joy to work with and help these kids grow into responsible self supporting adults. I have gone there at least once a year for the last five years and look forward to the experience each time.
Judy has remained best friends with our classmate Linda Block, who lives in New York City and we normally see her and her husband at least once a year.
About ten years ago we went to a movie theatre in New York and were surprised to see classmate Marlene Cohen there. She has not changed.
Judy always says that she looks forward to seeing my classmates more than hers, and this year will be no exception.
See ya'll in October.

So many wonderful memories have been rekindled while reading about the lives of Newport News friends, and I appreciate all the hard work and efforts of the Reunion Committee.
I moved to Washington DC in 1972 and love living in this beautiful area. On October 14, 1977, I met the most wonderful man, George Oberlander, at a land use and energy conservation seminar (he sat next to me at lunch) and on October 14, 1978 we married. He gave me two incredible teenagers as a wedding gift and they have been such a fabulous part of our lives. Our son Michael and daughter-in-law KK are both actors (theater, movies, TV) and now both own their own companies in LA. Most importantly, they are the parents of our beloved grandson Aidan (8) and the reason we travel to California several times a year. Our daughter Sylvie (producer for NBC Nightly News) and son-in-law Tom (videographer) who made us grandparents of our incredible grandson Nicholas (13). Fortuunately they live just 3 miles from us and we are cheering grandparents at weekly lacrosse and ice hockey games. One of the most wonderful occasions for our family was the trip 3 years ago to Vienna, Austria where George could show our kids and grandsons the house where he was born and raised. It was a very moving and exciting trip for the 8 of us.
George retired from being the Associated Executive Director of the National Capital Planning Commission and still does consulting work. My professional highlights include being a Staff Officer at the National Academy of Sciences responsible for the election of members and the annual meeting of scientists from all over the world; organizating a Health Care Quality Alliance for the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association; and my most favorite and meaningful, being the Community Outreach/Activities Manager for The Children's Inn at the National Institutes of Health, a residential facility where children and their families stay while the child is undergoing treatment at NIH. I retired several years ago and recently started SOGO Designs, a unique gift cards and tags company. I have shown my work at several craft shows and will be in two holiday craft shows in November.
Personal highlights include being awarded the United Nations Human Right Award for Comunity Service, working with Barbara Bush on her adult literacy initiative, being a Bat Mitzvah at age 43, and completing the Marine Corp Marathon (1998). Currently I serve on the boards of the Montgomery County Historical Society and Reading Opens Minds and am on the Social Committee of our condo association.
George and I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel extensively, and highlights include hiking on the Great Wall of China, snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and building a snowman on the deck of the QE2 in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Being married to my best friend and spending our lives together is the greatest joy in my life.
Really looking forward to seeing each of you and spending a wonderful weekend with friends who shared in experiences together at NNHS. See you soon.

Wow! 50 years is a long time ago! I've since married my husband, Bob, of 47 years and we have been blessed with a son, Mark, and a daughter, Elizabeth and 6 wonderful grandchildren, 3 girls and 3 boys ranging in ages 12 years - 9 months. Our son resides in the Chicago area and our daughter is only 6 miles from us.
We have had the opportunity to live in several cities in the U.S., after leaving Virginia. We were in Southern California for about 3 years (where our son was born), then Dallas for 10 years (where our daughter was born), then Chicago for 7 years (loved it and made some great friends there, but brrrr can get cold) and then to Roswell, GA (Atlanta area) for 19 years.
In my child raising years, I had the priviledge of being at home with the children and was able to pursue my interest of nutritional supplementation and it's benefits. (Being introduced to Shaklee Products in the 70's changed our lives for the better.) Today, it is a norm but then... it was unconventional.
Almost 10 years ago, about the time our daughter was getting married, a dear friend (from our Chicago years) introduced me to CAbi where I became involved in "Fashion, Friends and Fun" as a consultant and it has been a wonderful business for me. My husband's career has been in Martgage Lending. That alone tells you there were several years it was pretty lean on his end, but the industry has made a nice recovery.
The years have brought more wisdom, taught patience, developed perserverance and had the best and the worst. I have been very blessed in my life with a sweet husband and family and friends with whom to share life. A signifcant time in my life wass when a freind invited me to a Bible Study while living in Dallas, and I realized I wanted more of a relationship with Christ and began that journey to know Him more intimately. That relationship is continuing to mold me today.
I am looking so forward to seeing everyone at the Reunion, Hugs to all!
